In 1969, the curtains fell on the final musical production at the theater. From the 1970s to 1984, it was used as a porn theater. Following that, Xenon operated as a discotheque until the 1980s when it served as various nightclubs with different names in subsequent years up through the 1990s. Henry Miller's Theatre returned to its roots as a Broadway house in 1998, when Roundabout put on a revival of Cabaret and advertised it as the Kit Kat Klub - perfectly emulating the musical's invented stage. Following the auditorium's destruction, a new Henry Miller theater was unveiled in 2009, ushering in an era of modernity. On the 80th anniversary of esteemed American composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim's birth, announced their decision to honor him by renaming Henry Miller's Theatre in his name. On September 15, 2010, a spectacular celebration to commemorate the grand opening of the Stephen Sondheim Theatre was held and included an official lighting of its iconic marquee. To inaugurate the newly-christened theater, The Pee-wee Herman Show was put on for a limited ten-week run. The Stephen Sondheim Theater magnificently presented a revival of Anything Goes in 2011, which ran for an impressive twelve months. In 2013, the illustrious Trip to Bountiful premiered at the theater and was then followed by Beautiful: The Carole King Musical which delighted audiences from 2014 to 2019. At year's end in 2019, Stephen Sondheim Theater put on an unforgettable show of Slava's Snow show that captivated viewers until its grand finale. In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, our beloved theater was forced to shut its doors on March 12th, 2020. On October 21, 2021, the Stephen Sondheim Theatre made its triumphant return with a spectacular production of Mrs. Doubtfire – which thrilled audiences until last May 2022! In November 2022, the sensational Stephen Sondheim Theatre & Juliet musical made its debut at the illustrious venue.
