Rhod Gilbert was born in Carmarthen, Wales, in 1968, and attended Cambridge to study Social and Political Sciences. He previously worked in journalism and education before venturing into comedy. Gilbert, inspired by Dylan Moran and Billy Connolly, began performing stand-up comedy in 2002. His early performances at the Edinburgh Fringe, including Rhod Gilbert and the Award-Winning Mince Pie (2004), earned him praise for his observational humour and unique Welsh perspective on everyday absurdities.
Rhod's 2008 show Shocking for the People received critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe and subsequently toured the United Kingdom and Australia. Television appearances include Live at the Apollo (2009) and Mock the Week (2010-2015). His stand-up specials, such as Rhod Gilbert: The Best of Gilbert (2013), were broadcast internationally.
