Mayday Parade formed in 2005 in Tallahassee, Florida, after two local bands combined, merging emo and pop-punk influences. Derek Sanders (vocals), Alex Garcia (guitar), Brooks Betts (guitar), Jeremy Lenzo (bass), Jake Bundrick (drums), and Jason Lancaster (an early member) were the band's original members. Influenced by bands such as Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday, the band immediately developed a distinct style characterised by passionate lyrics and soaring melodies. Their early EPs and local gigs built a loyal following, and they honed their songwriting abilities while juggling student life and studio sessions.
Mayday Parade's debut album, A Lesson in Romantics (2007), sold more than 700,000 copies in the United States and included fan favourites like "Jamie All Over" and "Miserable at Best." The band earned mainstream notoriety with their subsequent albums, Anywhere but Here (2009) and Monsters in the Closet (2013), which debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200. They've played major events like Warped Tour and Vans' Summerfest, as well as cooperated with We the Kings and All Time Low. Their emotional lyrics and high-energy concerts earned them numerous Alternative Press awards and a devoted international fan base.
Mayday Parade has recently published albums such as Sunnyland (2018) and What It Means To Fall Apart (2021), delivering chart-topping hits and fan favourites. Their live shows are recognised for emotive sing-alongs, audience participation, and spectacular guitar plays. Hits like "Stay" and "Black Cat" continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
