John Butler, born in California in 1975, moved to Australia when he was eleven years old and immersed himself in a variety of musical traditions. Butler developed his trademark percussive fingerpicking approach after receiving classical banjo training and later mastered guitar. In 1998, he formed the John Butler Trio in Fremantle, channelling influences from blues, folk, and Indigenous Australian music to create a distinct roots-rock sound.

Sunrise Over Sea (2004) marked the Trio's breakthrough, debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA charts and producing the lasting song "Zebra." Subsequent albums, including Grand National (2007) and April Uprising (2010), solidified their place in Australian music history, selling hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide. Multiple ARIA Awards and sold-out tours followed, cementing their status as global festival favourites.

In concert, the Trio is known for their long improvisations, socially oriented songs, and Butler's electric 11-string guitar performance. Songs like "Betterman" and "Ocean" continue to be highlights, engaging audiences in both stadiums and intimate locations. Each performance combines raw fire and musical mastery, leaving audiences invigorated. Get your John Butler Trio Tickets on Yadara now.
