Soothsayers, created in London in 1998 by guitarist and composer Joe Atherton, combines inspirations from Afrobeat, reggae, and jazz. Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, and Miles Davis all serve as inspiration for the group. Early performances in UK clubs and festivals emphasised their upbeat rhythms and brass-driven compositions. Their debut album, Red Earth (2000), featured creative compositions and improvisational skills, soon gaining notice from world music enthusiasts and reviewers alike.

Soothsayers travelled extensively throughout Europe and Africa beginning in 2003, performing at Glastonbury, WOMAD, and the Southbank Centre. Albums such as Too Many Humans (2009) and Human Nature (2015) helped to establish their reputation. Afrobeat pioneers and jazz bands collaborate. With over 20 years of live gigs, many albums, and festival appearances, Soothsayers is well-known for flawlessly combining groove, melody, and improvisation.

The 2025 tour will feature tunes from Shadows (2022), as well as fan favourites including "Warriors" and "Rooted." The shows include brass, percussion, and interactive audience moments with dynamic improvisation.
