Cameo is an American funk band that formed in 1974. The band's best-known line-up consisted of brothers Anthony (drummer) and Larry Dunn (keyboardist), percussionist Philip Bailey, guitarist Michael Harris, and bassist Verdine White. The band is noted for its distinctive visual style featuring colorful costumes, face paint, and stage theatrics, as well as a wide variety of musical influences including soul, funk, rock, and jazz. Cameo's music is also notable for its use of the talk box, a device which allows the user to modulate the sound of their voice using a variety of techniques. The band has released thirteen studio albums and multiple singles, including the hits "Word Up!" and "Candy". Cameo's first big hit was the song "I Just Want To Be" from 1979. It peaked at number three on the Billboard Magazine R&B Chart, and together with the album's follow-up song, the Top 10 R&B ballad "Sparkle," helped the band's debut album, Secret Omen, earn Gold certification with sales of over 500,000 copies. The band's momentum continued with Single Life, which debuted at number two on the Top R&B chart and featured the title track and "Attack Me with Your Love." This album helped to set the stage for the band's subsequent year of success. Word Up!, the band's biggest pop chart hit, was released in 1986 and peaked at number one on the Billboard R&B chart and number six on the Billboard Hot 100. In the Face of Funk, which the band independently released in 1994, peaked at number 10 on the Top R&B chart. After the publication of this album, there was an unofficial 6-year break before the release of the follow-up album Sexy Sweet Thing in 2000. Their most recent charting product, the album, peaked at number 64 on the Top R&B chart. The Mariah Carey record "Loverboy," which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001 and included a sample from the band's tune "Candy," also gave Blackmon credit as a co-songwriter. Six compilation albums were issued during the significant period of inactivity and unofficial hiatus that occurred throughout these years. The Hits Collection (2000), 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Cameo (2001), Anthology (2002), Classic Cameo (2003), The Best of Cameo (2004), Gold (2005), and The Definitive Collection were the compilation albums that were published during this time period (2006). At the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, Cameo launched a year-long residency show. Cameo tickets are on sale now at Yadara! We have the best selection of Cameo tickets at the best prices.
