Ramon Melendi Espina known as Melendi is a Spanish singer-songwriter. Melendi was born in Oviedo, Asturias. His father Ramón Melendi Salinas and his mother María Espina Labrador had four children: three boys and one girl. At the age of eight, he started to play the drums and at thirteen he began to write songs. When he was 16, he joined a band called Utopía. In 2002, he released his first album, titled Mercat de les flors. The album was produced by himself and recorded in the city of Gijón. "Que el cielo espere sentao," his second solo CD, was published in 2005 and has since sold more than 200,000 copies. Later on, in the same year, he reissued the album along with a live concert DVD from an Oviedo show and three additional songs: "El Nano," "La dama y el vagabundo," and "Carlota." In the same year that he became a parent, "Caminando por la vida" won the Onda award for Best Song of the Year. He was given the "Best Tour" honor at the Cordoba-based "Premios de la Msica" festival in 2007. He also created a song with the same name for the "Me Gusta Ftbol" (I Like Football) advertising campaign for Canal+ Spain. For the CD of TV3's La Marató telethon, he recorded a Catalan version of "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper called "Ulls dolços" in 2011. In order to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his debut solo album, he published a new album on November 13th, 2012, titled Lágrimas desordenadas, and later that year, he embarked on a tour of Spain and Latin America. The singer joined La Voz Kids in Televisa's second Mexican season as a coach in October 2019.
