British Lion, which was started in 2012 by Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris, mixes vintage British rock with melodic hard rock. Harris worked with Richard Taylor (vocals), David Hawkins (keyboards, guitar), and Simon Dawson (drums) to write songs that weren't for Iron Maiden. Early shows in London and the UK got them noticed, and their self-titled first album British Lion (2012) showed off Harris's ability to write songs in several styles and Taylor's powerful voice.

The band went on tour in Europe and North America, playing at famous places and festivals including Download Festival. People liked songs like "The Burning" and "Spit Fire" because they mixed strong chords with catchy choruses.
