Great Grandpa, which started in Vancouver in 2014, plays indie rock with lyrics that come from the heart. Alex Watts, the singer, and Kevin Andre, the guitarist, are both members. They are influenced by Pavement and Dinosaur Jr. They got better at what they did by playing in local clubs, and in 2015 they put out their first EP, Can't Tell Me No. Their early singles, such as "Teen Challenge," helped them gain a loyal following in Canada and the Pacific Northwest.

Exclaim! and Pitchfork both praised Great Grandpa's first album, Four of Arrows (2018), which charted in Canada. They have played at a lot of festivals, like the Squamish Music Festival in 2019, and worked with indie bands like Wolf Parade. Their songs made it into the Top 50 on college radio stations. The band has built a loyal fan base over time thanks to their emotional lyrics and high-energy shows.

Their newest album, Plastic Cough (2023), features experimental indie sounds. The singles "Violet" and "Fever Dream" both topped the indie charts. There are bright lights, a lively stage presence, and sing-along parts at live shows. People love the close but lively shows.
