Dan Whitford, a Melbourne native, launched Cut Copy in 2001 by merging his graphic design experience with a love of synth-heavy pop. Cut Copy expanded into a complete band, featuring Tim Hoey, Mitchell Scott, and Ben Browning, drawing inspiration from 1980s new wave and modern dance culture. Their early EPs paved the way for a career steeped in both indie experimentation and club-ready rhythms.

In Ghost Colours (2008), which featured singles like "Lights & Music" and "Hearts on Fire," was the group's breakout album, charting internationally and becoming festival staples. The ARIA Award-winning band's next album, Zonoscope (2011), received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album, raising their global visibility even more.
