  • The Mavericks are an American country music band from Miami, Florida. The band was founded in 1989 by lead singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist Raul Malo, lead guitarist David Lee Holt, bassist Robert Reynolds, and drummer Paul Deakin. The Mavericks recorded two independent albums before signing with MCA Nashville Records in 1991. The group first gained mainstream attention with their single "Here Comes My Baby", which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Country chart in 1992. Their second album, From Hell to Paradise, was released later that year and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The Mavericks won a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for their cover of Trisha Yearwood's song "Walkaway Joe" in 1995. The band's third album, Music for All Occasions, was released in 1995 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. The album's lead single, "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down", was a crossover hit, reaching the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Mavericks parted ways with MCA in 1998 and released their fourth album, Trampoline, and Dance The Night Away, on the independent label Sanctuary Records. The album was a critical and commercial failure, and the band was dropped from the label. The Mavericks reunited in 2003 and released their fifth album, In Time, on the indie label The Valory Music Co. The album was a commercial success, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Country chart and spawning the singles "Jealousy" and "Things I Cannot Change". The band's sixth album, Mono, was released in 2015 on Big Machine Records. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching the top 5 on the Billboard Country chart and spawning the single "All Night Long". On August 21, 2020, The Mavericks band made history by unveiling their first full-length Spanish language album - En Español. This stunning collection of songs is sure to impress any fan! According to Deming of AllMusic, this album boasts fewer country and pop sounds than their prior albums but spotlights the Latin The Mavericks' music roots more intensely. The album is a beautiful celebration of the band’s diverse musicality, showcasing their ability to incorporate various styles into one cohesive sound. It features genre-blurring tracks like “Un Amor Profundo” that effortlessly transition from rock to Latin grooves and back again - something only the Ocean Drive Band can do. In addition, this album includes some of the band’s most heartfelt and personal lyrics yet - perfect for both long-time fans and newcomers alike. Overall En Español is an incredible record that shows off the full range of the band's talent and proves their versatility in crafting meaningful music. It's quite astonishing that Eddie Perez, the Mavericks' exuberant lead guitarist, manages to avoid foot problems despite the incredible energy he exudes during his performances. Hailing from Los Angeles in 1968, Perez, a talented Mexican-American, dedicated nearly a decade to recording and touring alongside country sensation Dwight Yoakam. However, in 2003, Perez embarked on a new chapter, joining the ranks of the Mavericks. He immediately forged a strong connection with vocalist Raul Malo, seamlessly integrating himself into the band's diverse fusion of Cuban, country, soul, and rock 'n' roll music. During a recent interview, he discussed his development as a player and the sheer joy of performing with the band.
