Cattle & Cane started in Melbourne, Australia, in the early 2000s. They mixed folk, rock, and roots music. Chris Thompson and James Hosking, who have been friends for a long time, lead the band. Their songs tell stories that are based on where they grew up. Their early EPs, like Red Dust (2004), showed off their melodic harmonies and acoustic style. They quickly became known for their real lyrics and tight instrumentation, thanks to artists like Paul Kelly and Neil Young. This set the stage for a long career.
In 2007, Cattle & Cane released their first big hit album, Echoes of the Outback, which got great reviews and made it into the top 50 in Australia. They played at big festivals like the Port Fairy Folk Festival in 2008 and the Woodford Folk Festival in 2009. Working with famous producer Tony Cohen made their sound better. Fans loved songs like "Open Plains" and "River Song," and the band got a lot of attention from the music industry, including multiple nominations at the Australian Independent Music Awards. This made them a big name in the folk-rock scene.
Cattle & Cane has been on tour all over Australia in the last few years, playing hits like "Wanderer's Heart" and "Dust & Sky" to sold-out crowds. Their live shows have layered harmonies, complicated guitar work, and personal stories that keep people interested. The band still puts out music on their own, and their most recent album, Northern Lights, came out in 2023. Buy your Cattle & Cane tickets on Yadara now to see their amazing folk-rock shows in person.
