Feeder was founded in Newport, Wales, in 1994 by Grant Nicholas and Taka Hirose, who were later joined by drummer Jon Lee. They combined alternative rock and grunge influences, finding traction with EPs such as Swim in 1996. Their early sound was reminiscent of Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins, and Nicholas' melodic lyrics gave them a distinct British edge. The group's resiliency following Jon Lee's terrible death in 2002 helped to define their tale, demonstrating strength both musically and personally.
Feeder earned tremendous success with Echo Park (2001), which featured the smash single "Buck Rogers," which reached the UK Top 5. Their tracks "Just a Day" and "Feeling a Moment" were festival favorites and had extensive radio airplay. The band had several Top 40 albums, with Comfort in Sound (2002) representing a watershed moment. They toured widely throughout Europe and Japan, sharing stages with Coldplay and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and their music videos became popular on MTV2 in the early 2000s.
Feeder brings both nostalgia and new vigor. Expect soaring choruses from "High," gritty guitars from "Insomnia," and emotive performances from "Just a Day." Their gigs are characterized by high audience interaction, with setlists that mix oldies and newer releases. Feeder's performances feel like communal celebrations of tenacity and melody, as they are known for making deep connections with their fans.
